Kappa Epsilon
Professional Pharmacy Fraternity
Alpha Xi Chapter at Florida A&M University
Chapter History
Chartered February 13th, 1971, The Alpha Xi Chapter of Kappa Epsilon was installed at the illustrious Florida A&M University. It is here, on the highest of seven hills, where the world renowned College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences produces the most African American Pharmacist a year and found much need for such an organization to asset to the surrounding community.
Formerly the Alpha Chi Pharmacy Club of 18 coeds, 2 alumni, and 3 associates, the Alpha Xi Chapter of Kappa Epsilon was established after a year and a half of service projects rendered to the school and community. The main project of the Alpha Chi Club was teaching underprivileged children of the Swakoko Villa about basic health hygiene. While that was our longest, ongoing project, Alpha Chi Club also raised funds for a service project through a school dance (1969-1070), served as hostess of the Drug Abuse Seminar by Florida A&M University’s School of Pharmacy during National Pharmacy Week, prepared hygiene kits to be distributed to girls from low-income families of Tallahassee, visited the young girls and other children of equally deprived families (1970-1971), submitted articles about the club to be published in the School of Pharmacy’s publication, titled The FAMUcist, won first place at the Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity’s Founder’s Week Calendar Tea, and aided a family of eleven mourn the loss of their father by making dresses for three of the daughters and providing them clothes for future use.
All to become affiliated with the renowned Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, Inc., the Alpha Chi Pharmacy Club was deemed eligible for acceptance into the organization from National Headquarters. Thanks to our advisor, Mrs. Julita C. Awkard and Dr. Ira C. Robinson, Initiation was scheduled to take place on February 12-13, 1971 and the Alpha Chi Pharmacy Club then became the Alpha Xi Chapter of Kappa Epsilon Pharmacy Fraternity, Inc.
